Presentations/Retreats

Jeanne regularly gives presentations to other professionals, students, and other public forums to advocate for the trauma perspective and the therapeutic treatment of sex addiction.

Managing the Elephant: Effective Couples Therapy in Early Recovery (with Tim Stein, LMFT, CSAT-S, CCPS)

Early in recovery, traditional couples therapy is ineffective and can even be traumatizing.  Couples impacted by sex addiction need guidance and support while navigating recovery and acknowledging the pain of betrayal.  After exploring why traditional couples therapy models are ineffective, an alternative couples therapy model for early recovery is presented.  Timing of couples therapy related to individual recovery, client skill development, clinical interventions and the role of the clinician(s) is presented and explored through discussion and demonstration.  This presentation has been given per the request of multiple national conferences organizers.

Sex Addiction 101:  Understanding Sex and Pornography Addiction (with Tim Stein, LMFT CSAT-S, CCPS)
This educational seminar provides information about what sex and pornography addiction is, as well as behaviors commonly connected with sex and pornography addiction.  There is a special focus on the partner’s experience, underlying issues that drive sex and pornography addiction, and what is needed for successful individual and couples recovery.  This presentation is offered approximately three times per year for the last four years.

Two Roads to Rome: Sex Addiction and Couples Recovery (with Tim Stein, LMFT, CSAT-S, CCPS)
Sex addiction is a problem for the addict as well as all family members.  Using a family systems perspective, sex addiction recovery for the addict, partner, and couple is discussed.  The differences in treatment paths for the addict and betrayed partner are highlighted.  Common mistakes made by therapists when working with sex addicts and/or their partners are also shared.  This presentation has been offered to numerous graduate college psychology programs.
